The seventh edition of PIAM, the Matimex International Architecture Prize, is now open.

PIAM is aimed exclusively at professionals from the world of architecture, design, interior design or engineering who, through the use of ceramic materials from Iris Ceramica Group,  develop a project idea or present a previously designed project which has been modified with the use of our materials.

In this seventh edition, PIAM proposes a reflection on «Therapeutic architecture. Design for health».

Taking into account that health is determined by social circumstances and that health can be gained in addition to losing it, we would like to open a reflection on two complementary lines of work:

Architecture to regain health. Spaces where design should counteract feelings such as fear, loneliness and pain. Light, color, natural ventilation, the search for locations that allow views of nature, circulations or scale; architecture as a mean to alleviate suffering. Typologies could be presented such as: Hospitals, clinics, sanatoriums, primary care centers, specialty centers, dental clinics, physiotherapy or functional recovery clinics, medicalized senior centers, alternative therapy centers.

Architecture to increase health. Urban and architectural design as an instrument to generate healthy environments capable of preventing diseases and increasing levels of public health. Typologies could be presented such as: parks, outdoor sports areas, sports centers, recovery of marginal spaces for social uses, citizen or social centers, neighborhood centers ...

PIAM proposes projecting a space or recovering an existing one, whose design falls within one or more of the indicated typologies or whose idea revolves around the main theme of the contest.

The jury is made up, once again, of highly prestigious professionals linked to architecture:

  • Manuel Alberdi Causse. Project Manager in Bupa's Project Development department (Sanitas).
  • Albert De Pineda. Founding partner of Pinearq.
  • Juan-Luis Grafulla. Director and CEO of Matimex.
  • Alberto Jorge Camacho and Jaime López Valdés. Founding partners of Chile 15.
  • Federica Minozzi. CEO of Iris Ceramica Group. Francisco Ortega Montoliu. General Director of January Arquitectura.
  • Javier Zamorano Serrano. Founder of VIAIV Global Retail Architects.

This year, Matimex will continue to donate a financial amount to the non-profit association Amigos de Nyumbani for each of the projects that are presented. The date of registration and delivery of the project is from February 26 to May 10. No registration fee. You can expand this information on the official website of the contest
