FAIL 8TH EDITION PIAM

The 8th edition of the Matimex International Architecture Award closed the project presentation period on May 3 and, after the deliberation of the jury, we already have winners.

Following this year's motto «The single-family home. The future is today», the best valued project that gets the first prize goes to:

«SUNSET AT THE TREETOPS» designed by Ana Andrés de la Esperanza and Diego Ramos Cejudo from the La Reina Obrera Architecture and Interior Design studio.

The project places the house at the height of the treetops, making the task of integrating the building into its landscape more complex. The next challenge he faces is to be able to enjoy the landscape from each and every one of the rooms.

The project is coherent in all its points and in the proposed solutions. It has an interesting spatiality and an effective integration and connection between the interior and the exterior.

The choice of materials is very successful. The composition of the panel is sober and well done.

The second prize is awarded to:
«E2M2» by Elena Robles Alonso and Elena Cabanes.

The project studies building custom-made houses with modest budgets, choosing modular and prefabricated systems so that construction times and solutions can be optimized.

The need for the «green space» to be part of the organization of the plant, as if it were one more module, is another aspect to be highlighted.

A clear exposition of the concept and the objectives to be achieved for the design of the house is made. The development of the panel is attractive and has quality. The proposal makes use of a delicate selection of materials.

The jury has also awarded two second prizes for the following works:

Accésit: «EXODUS. IN TRANSFORMATION» by Javier de Sola Caraballo, Jorge Rodríguez Pérez and Javier Sabido Royón.

A space is proposed for those people who, fleeing from the difficulties posed by the city, and taking advantage of the possibilities of teleworking and interconnection via the Internet, seek the facilities and tranquility of more decongested areas in extra-urban areas.

A social symbiosis that compensates the overcrowding of urban centers with the depopulation of more isolated areas.

The project is very well justified in terms of its concept, its sustainability and its versatility. It has clear intentions to solve future social needs.

Accésit: «INHABITING THE ENVIRONMENT. HOUSING ON THE COSTA BRAVA» by Mauro Viola.

The project builds a single-family home on a sloping plot of land overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, specifically on the coast of Blanes.

The good presentation and its easy interpretation have been positively valued. The jury found the formal articulation of the volume and the rich interior spatiality interesting, creating various relationships. Carefully use the ceramic materials that are required in the contest.

Two special mentions have been awarded to:

«HOUSE UNDERGROUND: HOUSING AS AN ALLEGORY OF LANDSCAPE» by: Víctor Hugo Vásquez Ruiz.
«NOMADÉ» performed by Andrés Cárdenas Haro.

The composition of the jury is of great importance to Matimex. This year the evaluation of the proposals has been carried out by:

-Rodolfo Amieva Jacobson and Diego Macías Domínguez. Architect and founding partner of González y Jacobson. Architect and partner of González y Jacobson Arquitectura.
-Juan-Luis Grafulla. Director and CEO of Matimex.
-Dottoressa Federica Minozzi. CEO of Iris Ceramica Group. Ruben Muedra Ortiz. Founding partner of Rubén Muedra Architecture Studio.
-João de Sousa Rodolfo. CEO and founder of Traçado Regulador.

As in previous years, Iris Ceramica Group's Active Surfaces photocatalytic application, based on improving air quality and human health, has been highly valued by the court.

The official delivery of the PIAM awards will take place on Wednesday, July 6, at the Castellón showroom.

Congratulations to all the winners!
