Fondazione Iris Ceramica Group is once again working with Sea Shepherd to support Operation Ghostnet. The new campaign, which takes place in the Mediterranean Sea, focuses on the problem of large fishing gear that is lost or abandoned in the sea by fishermen, damaging the marine ecosystem through the phenomenon called "ghost net", which it is also a hazard to boats.
Every year, more than 640,000 tons of fishing gear is discarded in the oceans and is one of the most important threats to marine ecosystems. Compared to other forms of man-made marine debris, ghost nets are the worst danger to animals, due to the risk of entrapment, and their impact on marine life is four times more likely than all other forms of waste together.
The Ghostnet Campaign aims to protect Mediterranean waters from this danger through: The creation of a database of abandoned fishing equipment in the Mediterranean Removal of ghost nets in cooperation with professional divers Recovery and recycling of ghost nets Dissemination of data for informational and scientific purposes Once again, Fondazione Iris Ceramica Group demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, supporting the cause of Sea Shepherd and making its own resources available to create a better future through the conservation of the marine ecosystem.
